OUR STORY
The idea behind Mazdoor.co germinated during the Covid - 19 pandemic. As we scrambled to hoard food, we forgot the millions in India who don’t have the luxury of owning fridges.
We forgot about the millions who don’t have enough savings to buy enough in advance, who earn their wages on a daily basis and dispose of most of it on essentials. We scrambled to respond to their crisis as an organization by organizing ration kits, community
kitchens and medicines and sanitizers for them.
With such woke yet overwhelming realisations, we decided to go out - from the barrels of our privilege to not merely “survey” but to “understand” the ones who are yet to be heard.
Over the last one year, we have gathered emotions - from Daksha’s (Housekeeper) helplessness to Goma Kaka’s (Destitute) wisdom and all in between.

Beggar Lal Darwaja
It was our second visit to the Old City where in hope to know more about the lives of street vendors, we sharpened our tools and were all set for the trail. I could say it was my lucky day so far. It generally
took us an hour and half to get the vibes of the place but here it was like the "कायनात " or destiny of a Shahrukh Khan film that destined us to meet. My Uber dropped me at the forefront of his empire where
he was pretentiously seated on a bright red self-made adapted vehicle. "I made this with my small saving from begging on street.. ", said he when we enquired about his "Pushpak Viman." And this blew my mind.
I mean was I this ignorant to think that begging was to make the ends meet? Goma Kaka not only built his tuk-tuk but managed to start a small vending business from the money he had been saving from begging
all these years. At 80, he wishes to expand his empire by investing in religious items such as sacred thread, Kohl etc and I think he understood India and Capitalism better than Nehru and Smith.
